A joint team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) and Imphal East Narcotics Cell seized a huge consignment of contraband drugs worth around Rs 20 lakh in the black market from Imphal Head
Post Office today.
The consignment comprised of ten carton boxes containing a huge number of Spasmo Proxyvon capsules and N10 tablets.
The boxes, sent by Raju Singh and Bijoy Singh both from Kolkata and Sankar Prasad from New Delhi, remained as unclaimed items for some days before the joint narcotics team took it under their custody.
One carton box contained 18 bags and each bag contained 1,526 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon capsules and N10 tablets.
The consignments were addressed to Pawankumar of Paona Bazar, H Somorjit Singh and Sandip Kumar of Thangal bazar and Rajen Singh of PP Store, Keishampat junction.
A case has been registered at Imphal police station for further investigation.
Although, the authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cost of the seized drugs, it has been estimated that it will cost around Rs 20 lakh in the black market.
Imphal Head Post Office Post Master L Raikumar Singh said that the joint team opened the carton boxes after they took permission from the Magistrate.
He further said that the 10 carton boxes were kept sealed in Imphal Head Post Office from yesterday on suspicion as nobody turned up to collect it.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first time that contraband drugs have been seized from Imphal Head Post Office and other private courier services.
It is said that most of the psychotropic drugs are sent to Manipur from cities like Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati.
