Doctor, driver remanded into judicial custody

Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal West II has rejected bail applications filed by a senior resident doctor of JNIMS and his driver, and instead remanded them into judicial custody in connection with the alleged black- mailing and sexual assault of a married woman.
Senior resident surgeon of JNIMS, Dr Pukhrambam Kiran (40) s/o Dr P Brajamani of Wangkhei Yong- lan Leirak was arrested on March 17 while his driver, Norel Sorokhaibam Meitei (24) s/o Leishang Sorokhaibam of Chairel Makha Leikai was arrested on March 26.They have been in police custody till today.
During the proceedings today, the duo were produced before the Court along with a prayer for judicial remand to ensure smooth investigation of the case while their defence counsels filed remand objections along with prayers for releasing them on bail.
The IO submitted that during necessary interrogation, the accused doctor admitted to capturing nude photographs of the victim using his mobile phone to blackmail her.
He disclosed that he had also sent such obscene pictures to the woman's hus- band and her parental home, the IO added.
On the other hand, the IO informed that Norel Sorokhaibam Meitei also admitted that he accompanied the accused doctor when the doctor sent the nude pictures.
However Norel denied having any knowledge of the crime claiming that he was just accompanying Kiran.
He also claimed that the doctor did not mention or inform him about any of the activities, the IO informed, thus praying for judicial remand of the duo for further investigation of the case.
After going through the case records and hearing the submission of the IO and the defence counsels, the Court rejected the bail applications filed by the two individuals and instead sent them to judicial custody.
