AMSU to protest in front of Raj Bhavan

In accordance with a resolution adopted by the North East Students' Organisation (NESO), AMSU has geared up to stage a sit-in-protest in front of Raj Bhavan here tomorrow.
This was announced by AMSU president Thokchom Suresh during a press meet at AMSU office, DM College campus this afternoon.
NESO submitted four memoranda highlighting myriad issues of the North East region to the Prime Ministers of India in 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2011 .
As none of the demands raised through the memoranda have been put into action, NESO decided to stage protest demonstrations in all the North Eastern States tomorrow.
Being a member of NESO, AMSU would join the protest demonstration.
Like AMSU, All Assam Students' Union, All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union, Naga Students' Federation, Tripuri Students' Federation, Mizo Zilla Pawl, Khasi Students' Union and Garo Students' Union would stage protest demonstrations in front of the Raj Bhavans of their respective States.

The principal agenda/demands of the memoranda are enactment of education and human resource development policy exclusively for the North East region and establishment of education commission for the region.
Abolition of AFSPA 1958, formulation of a comprehensive policy to check infiltration by illegal migrants and refugees and redressal of the economic and infrastructural development concerns on environment were some other agenda of the memoranda, Suresh said.
Employment policy for North East, Indo-Bangla land swap issue, inter-State boundary conflict, special constitutional status and separate time zone for North East were other points of the memoranda submitted to the Indian Prime Ministers.
The AMSU president also mentioned about the controversial deaths of Richard, Laba and Dana Sangma.
He also demanded full protection of all Northeastern people studying and working in different cities of mainland India.
