Missing woman found dead, suspect held

Imphal, June 27 2017:
A woman who went missing since June 20 was found dead in Thoubal river at Shangkai village under Litan police station yesterday morning at around 7 .
The deceased has been identified as Khundrakpam Bimola (54) of Itam Nungoi in Imphal East district and staying in a rented house at Litan .
Acting swiftly, police arrested a suspect, Vikash Limbu (20) son of Bahadur Limbu of Padam Pathar village, Golaghat district, Assam on June 25 .
Police in a statement claimed that the suspect has admitted to killing the woman and the body was recovered on his disclosure yesterday at about 4.50 pm from Thoubal river between Shankai and Thawai village .
The dead body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem .
Meanwhile, a public meeting held at Itam Nungoi yesterday has formed a Joint Action Committee in connection with the incident .
According to a press release of the JAC signed by its convenor Kh Sanayaima Meetei, the meeting resolved to demand the State Government to find out the killer (s) within 5 pm of tomorrow failing which Imphal-Ukhrul road will be blocked indefinitely from June 28 midnight .
The meeting also resolved to launch different forms of agitation against the killing .
As news of the recovery of the body of the woman spread, local womenfolk today staged a sit-in protest at Itam Nungoi against the reported killing of the woman .
Protesters at the same time warned of imposing indefinite bandh along Imphal-Ukhrul road from midnight of June 28 unless the culprits involved in the killing are booked before June 28.Locals also held a talk with the Government yesterday .
The body of Bimola was found under a bridge at Sanggai village, located about 5 kms from Litan after she had reportedly gone missing on June 20 .
Bimola was running a pan dukan at Litan since 7/8 years.
