Imphal, July 25 2012:
In connection with the news report published in this paper over issuing of street vendor license to a non-Manipuri, Chairperson of IMC N Raghumani has falsely clarified that the non-Manipuri was only provided a Hawker License by IMC.
The Chairperson made the clarification during a press conference here today.
However, when Hueiyen Lanpao went to meet the street vendor in question, Ram Das Shanker and checked his license, it was found that the license issued to him is a Street Vendor license and not a Hawker License as the Chairperson claimed.
During the press conference, the Chairperson also circulated a five point press note.
The first point of the press note mentioned that the space provided to non-Manipuris in front of Bheirodan High School in Dharmashala for selling fruits and vegetables was done in 1981 by the then Imphal Municipal Board.
There, the name of Ram Das Shanker is also mentioned as clearly as a street vendor.
Giving Hawker License means providing space for hawking of goods in certain area.
However, Ram Das Shanker has been enjoying the privilege of opening a vendor in a particular area permanently, which can only be provided under a street vendor license.
The Chairperson, while responding to a query made by media persons, said that the license provided to the no-Manipuri has not been cancelled till today as there is no alternative arrangement.
He further informed that in its efforts to make Imphal city need and clean, the IMC has also have started collecting garbages and dumping them at proper places.
For this purpose, two excavators have been purchased, though one of them is not in order today.
