IED, mortar found, false alarm sounded

One Improvised Explosive Device was found planted along the road side in between Laikoiching and Moirangpurel and another 51 mm mortar shell was found at a paddy field at Khundrakpam Awang Leikai while an unattended suspicious object wrapped in plastic bag �which turned out to be a false alarm� created panic at the busy Ima Keithel area during the last 12 hours.
An unattended material suspected to be an explosive created panic among shoppers and shopkeepers at the busy Ima Keithel under City police station today which later turned out to be a false alarm.
According to a reliable source, one IED was found planted at Liche Makhong along Laikhoiching-Moirangpurel road under Lamlai police station.
Some labourers came acrosss the explosive device.
The labourers were engaged in road construction work along the road at around 2 pm today.
The labourers informed about the presence of the IED to the Field G-team of BSF.
Later, a team of BSF personnel rushed to the spot along with the BSF bomb squad team and cordoned off the area and prevented all vehicles coming along the road from crossing the area.
The bomb was safely detonated by the bomb expert squad at the spot at around 3.40 pm.
At the same time, Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar while speaking to reporters this evening condemned the planting of the explosive while terming it as a 'thoughtless' act.
On the other hand, villagers of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai found a 51 mm mortar shell in a paddy field located some meters away from the Natural Care Hospital under Heingang police station today morning at around 11.45 .
Heingang police rushed to the spot after locals informed about the presence of the explosive material.
State bomb expert team defused the explosive around 12.20 pm.
Meanwhile, an unattended material suspected to be an explosive created panic among shoppers and shopkeepers at the busy Ima Keithel under City police station today which later turned out to be a false alarm.
According to reports culled from the spot, the suspicious material wrapped in the plastic bag was seen carried by a woman in the crowded bazar area in front of Lakshmi bazar.
The bag was found dumped along the roadside.
On seeing the bag lying unattended, vendors and shoppers alike, who are still to recover from the trauma of the last blast that occurred in the area a few days back, fled.
Soon after providing information to the police, a large police team arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area.
Traffic jam was caused in the area for about half an hour as many vehicles were diverted.
The material later was found to be a shawl.
