Imphal, September 22 2014:
It has been learnt that Dr Damayenti wrote a letter to the State unit president of a political party in the wake of the demotion of her husband Prof Sekharjit from the post of RIMS Director.
Though the letter was in the form of an appeal, its contents smacked of complaints against certain media reports.
The subject of the letter read, "Role of (political party) Manipur in dislocation of Dr S Sekharjit Singh, Director RIMS", disclosed a well placed source.
The letter referred to the said party's open celebration over demotion of Dr Sekharjit and their claim that Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harshavardhan took up befitting action in response to the party's memorandum which highlighted the wrongdoings and discrepancies of RIMS authority.
The third para of Dr Damayenti's letter highlighted the sorry state of affairs that prevailed at RIMS when Dr Sekharjit took over as RIMS Director and subsequent developments/improvements brought about by Dr Sekharjit.
The last para of the letter appealed to the State (political party) president to examine the third para and tell the truth to the public so as to avoid misinterpretation and refrain from projecting the Union Minister in a bad light.
According to Dr Damayenti's letter, the party president took up prompt action and expelled some key members of the party on the charge of indulging in anti-party activities.
It appeared that Dr Damayenti's letter seriously threatened the position of the State unit (political party) president and it subsequently led to expulsion of some key members, the source said.
It was not only members of the said political party but others too celebrated Dr Sekharjit's demotion by firing crackers.
This evoked a serious question why Dr Damayenti singled out only the said political party.
The last para of Dr Damayenti's letter read "....and the image of the party and the honourable Union Minister is not tarnished.
Copies of the same letter were also sent to not only the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare but also the Union Minister of State, Home Affairs." This is another question which merits serious analysis, added the source.
