A massive rally cum public meeting against drug trafficking was held today under the aegis of Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA).
The rally, that began from Khuman Lampak and after passing through Dinku Road culminated at till THAU Ground where a public meeting was held.
Revival of SIU which was disbanded on January 11 this year and to review the order affecting the transfer of police officer K Ranjit aftermath the seizure of huge quantity of drugs at Tulihal Airport on January 11 were amongst others, the resolutions adopted during the public meeting.
The meet also demanded the Govt to establish the identity of the owner of the drugs that were seized from Tulihal Airport.
It also demanded the authority concerned to make public the cases taken up against drug smugglers including an Army officer who were arrested on Feb 24 at Pallel along with huge consignment.
The meeting also demanded the authority concerned to come out with reports of cases that were handed over to CBI for a probe.
While also noting the unprecedented rise in the number of drug users and HIV positives in the State over the last few decades, the meeting further demanded the State Government to formulate specific drug policy.
RK Ranendrajit, editor of Freedom; president of CADA Arambam Rabindra; president of AMKIL, Phanjoubam Sakhi; president of Tami-Chingmi Soibam Momon Leima; president of UPF, BM Shah; president of NIPCO Sunil Karam were the presidium members of the public meeting.
