Imphal, April 21 2021:
Former Minister Yumkham Erabot was sworn in as a Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
This is the 7th time he has been elected from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency.
He was administered the oath of secrecy by Speaker Y Khemchand at around 1 pm at the conference hall on the ground floor of the Assembly complex.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Biren Singh, Kakching AC MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar and Manipur Development Society Chairman Moirangthem Asnikumar.
Notably, Y Erabot has become the latest and the 25th MLA of the BJP in the Government.
It may be mentioned that the BJP had won only 21 seats of the 60 in the 2017 General Assembly elections.

Significantly, Y Erabot was recently declared the winner of the 2017 elections from Wangkhei Assembly Constituency by the High Court of Manipur which also declared the elections of Okram Henry null and void on the ground that his nomination paper/affidavit had discrepancies in them.
Okram Henry had won the election on a Congress ticket beating Y Erabot, his closest rival of the BJP.
Y Erabot had then filed an election petition alleging there are discrepancies in the nomination paper/affidavit filed by Okram Henry.
Earlier, the BJP had also gained an MLA when Yengkhom Surchandra's 2017 election was declared null and void in a similar case.
His closest rival, Mayanglambam Rameshwar was then declared the duly elected Member from Kakching Assembly Constituency by the High Court.
Y Erabot's swearing in ceremony was held after the Election Commission gave its nod.
After the swearing in ceremony, Y Erabot told reporters that he has only about a year left to remain in office and added he would take up developmental works in his Constituency.
Chief minister N Biren Singh also appreciated and welcomed Y Erabot as an MLA of the BJP.
When asked if the Y Erabot will be given a Ministerial berth, the Chief Minister said he would have to consult the Central leaders on the issue.
