MPCC decries detention of Priyanka Gandhi

Denouncing the detention and prevention of AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from visiting Sonbhadra district in UP yesterday where a shoot-out occurred on July 17 killing 10 people following a land dispute, CLP leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has demanded the Government/authority concerned to lift the detention immediately.
He made the statement during a sit-in-protest staged at Congress Bhavan gate here today which was organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee denouncing the detention of the party's general secretary by UP police and preventing her from visiting the shoot-out spot and meeting the families of the victims.

He further cautioned the Central Government not to violate democracy or establish dictatorship in the country.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, Ibobi said that the party strongly condemned the UP Government for prohibiting Priyanka from visiting the shoot-out site and for detaining her at a guest house in Mirzapur district yesterday.
According to the media, Priyanka Gandhi is still detained and barred from visiting the site, although she is free to go anywhere.
Ibobi remarked that the action taken up by UP police is a complete and utter violation of democracy and a clear example of dictatorship.
He alleged that the BJP led Central Government has become arrogant and dictatorial .
