Imphal, April 18 2011:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) would be launching a campaign to expose the extent of corruption in ruling SPF Government to the people, party president in-charge Y Mangi has announced.
Y Mangi, who presided over a function hosted in MPP office today in honour of Thokchom Ongbi Apabi, who has been elected uncontest in the by-election to Utlou Zilla Parishad, alleged that the level of corruption in Manipur has risen phenomenally under the Congress led SPF Government and it has been trying to mislead the youth.
To cover up its own corrupt practices, the SPF Government has been taking up the so-called 15 flagship programmes, Y Mangi further alleged, while informing that to make the people under the extend of corruption being indulged in by SPF Government, MPP would be launching a campaign very soon.
Continuing his attack on the SPF Government, president in-charge of MPP charged that the Government has not been able to identity those who are behind the ambush laid on MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing and his convoy party near Riha village in broad daylight on April 15 that led to the loss of eight innocent lives and injuries to many others.
MPP strongly condemned the ambush and shared in the grief of the bereaved families, Mangi added.
He further charged that the recent incident of arson in the office of Youth Affairs and Sports Department was only attempt to cover up the corrupt practices of the Government being perpetrated in the name of promotion of sportspersons.
MPP advisor Th Chaoba, who was also present during the function, asserted that the result of the by-election to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency and the election of Thokchom Ongbi Apabi as a member without any contest in the recent byelection to Utlou Zilla Parishad are testimony of the fact that the people of Manipur do not want a Congress led Government in the State any more.
This is a clear indication that non-Congress parties would be able to defeat the Congress party in the next General elections and form a non-Congress Govt in the State, Chaoba said, while exhorting the people to extend their support to nonCongress parties for political change and development in Manipur.
Many party leaders were also present at the function during which Thokchom Ongbi Apabi was honoured with gifts.
It may be noted here that by-election to Utlou Zilla Parishad has been necessitated following the demise of its sitting Member Thokchom Sanayaima.
His wife Thokchom Ongbi Apabi contested in the by-election with the support of MPP and she has been elected without any contest.
