Imphal, September 15 2013:
While launching a scathing attack against the Okram Ibobi led Government for its alleged failure to protect lives and properties of people, Opposition parties have decided to take out a protest rally on September 23 .
This was stated by JD (U) State unit president and convenor of the alliance of non-Congress parties M Tombi at their Babupara office this morning.
A joint meeting of the non-Congress parties was held yesterday at the residence of Md Azizur Haque at Kshetrigao with MSCP president Y Mani in the chair.
The meeting deliberated on the Nagamapal bomb blast as well as the controversial border fencing work.
M Tombi said, "Law is in the hands of the Government but order is controlled by UG groups" .
Whereas the Government has failed miserably to protect lives and properties of citizens, all Government offices are being guarded by State and Central forces.
The meeting observed two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to all those victims killed in the Nagamapal blast.
M Tombi urged the Government to take up necessary measures for protection of migrant workers.
Saying that the opposition parties strongly condemned the bomb attack, Tombi asked the Government to formulate a long term security policy for Imphal city.
In protest against the controversial border fencing work, a mass rally would be taken out on September 23 starting from THAU ground.
Moreover, a memorandum would be submitted to the Governor, he said.
To make the protest rally a success, a committee has been constituted with Sarat Salam of CPI (M) as chairman.
MI Khan of Pangal Political Forum and Salam Shamu of Shiv Sena are co-convenors of the committee.
Tombi also appealed to the people to take part in the
mass rally.
He further appealed to all concerned to ensure that the case of Koijam Tolendro is not repeated in future.
Science Graduate Teacher Toijam Tolendro was among the teachers selected from all over the country for the National Teacher Award this year but be could not attend the award distribution function because he did not receive intimation or invitation in time.
