Imphal, August 12 2016 :
A team of the BJP Manipur Pradesh NFSA Monitoring Committee led by its convenor RK Shivachandra went to different places of Uripok AC and Wangoi AC today and made a field assessment of the implementation of NFSA.
The team visited Uripok Tourangbam Leikai (Ward No 4), Polem Leikai (Ward No 6) and Iroishemba (Ward No 27) and interacted with local women regarding implementation of NFSA.
Talking to media persons who accompanied the monitoring committee said that they have not received a single grain since the Act was launched in the State in April this year.
They said that neither ration cards have been given nor fair price shops opened.
Some women of Ward No 6 said that the local MLA have been withholding the ration cards on the pretext of examining whether there are any errors in the cards.
Asking whether the MLA has any authority to hold back ration cards, the women said that no one should forfeit any quantity of rice out of the total quantity entitled to NFSA beneficiaries.
If they do so, they would be taught a befitting lesson in the forthcoming election, the women said.
One resident of Ward No 4 said that some people have received ration cards but majority of the people have not been given the same cards.
When beneficiaries approached relevant officials for their ration cards while pointing out that their names have been already uploaded in the NFSA website, the officials told them that their ration cards were taken away by the concerned MLA.
They then questioned whether the Act permits MLAs to hold back ration cards.
Many women of Ward No 27 urged the BJP team to investigate into non-distribution of NFSA rice.
At Wangoi, the team was told that NFSA rice was distributed yesterday but most of the beneficiaries did not take rice as they have many grievances.
One M Shakhenbi of Ward No 3 (Wangoi) said that most of the beneficiaries did not take rice yesterday as the fair price agent maintained that only five Kgs of rice would be given to each beneficiary and one Kg would be deducted from the share of each beneficiary.
She maintained that the exact quantity of rice entitled to each beneficiary should be distributed without any further delay.
RK Shivachandra said that the committee started investigation into implementation of NFSA in the State after the party volumes of complaints about non-distribution of ration cards as well as rice.
After the investigation, a detail report would be submitted to the Prime Minister and the relevant Ministry for due intervention.
Due preparations are also on to take a mass rally against the State Government's abject failure to implement NFSA in the State, Shivachandra added.
