Imphal, November 08 2014 :
Sixty one non-locals, who came in two different inter-State passenger buses without proper identity proof documents, were detained by members of JCILPS Kanglatongbi on NH-2 in the wee hours today.
After meeting the OC of Sekmai police station in this connection, JCILPS Women Wing convenor L Nganbi told reporters that JCILPS members have been checking vehicles plying along the National Highways to detect the non-locals, who come to the State without proper identity proof documents.
Acting on a reliable information, members of JCILPS Kanglatongbi checked the two night super buses (MN01-2092 and NL-02-B-2062) in the wee hours today, she added.
All the 61 non-locals who were travelling in the two passenger buses were later handed over to Sekmai police, she said.
However, when JCILPS Women Wing members enquired about the incident, Sekmai police station OC told them that the number of the non-locals, who were detained by JCILPS Kangla- tongbi were only 51 and they are labourers of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd hailing from West Bengal and Bihar, Nganbi said.
The OC further told them that the labourers got an official letter from the Manager of the corporation, she said.
Nganbi said that when they requested the OC to check movement of non-locals on the highway, the OC told them that they do not get any such order from the higher authority.
She questioned whether police should give free hand to Power Grid Corporation and various night super buses to bring in large number of non-locals in the State, which is totally against the movement of JCILPS.
She alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio and the Chairmanship of All Political Parties Forum on ILPS is playing the delay tactics and he has not taken up any measure to check influx of non-locals.
She also appealed to all the MLAs and Ministers of the State to take up necessary measures in this regard and not to indulge in enrolment of non-locals in the voters' list to develop their vote bank.
Nganbi also asked the owners of the two buses, which were involved in today's incident, to come at JCILPS office by 2 pm tomorrow.
