Cong backs Bills, to convene all party meet

Like many other political parties, Congress party has pledged support to the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last year purportedly to protect indigenous people from incessant influx.
Meanwhile, the State Government has convened a meeting of all political parties on the issue at 9 am tomorrow.
Congress party has been lobbying with the President of India to give assent to the three Bills, claimed a press release issued by MPCC, media department chairman L Memo.
The Bills were passed unanimously by all the MLAs and they were supported by intellectuals, civil society organisations, Meira Paibis, students and the general public.
In the course of the civil agitation in pursuit of the three Bills, one student was killed.
Again, a massive uproar was raised by some section of people in protest against the three Bills resulting in the death of nine innocent people.
Taking serious note of this misunderstanding, the State Government has been striving to bridge communication gap and convince all sections of the society that the three Bills are aimed at protecting all the indigenous people of the land.
The Congress party held a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and discussed about sending an all-party delegation to New Delhi to lobby with the President of India in order to get the three Bills approved.
Subsequently, an all party meeting has been convened at 9 am tomorrow (May 9).Congress party is hopeful that an all-party delegation would be preparing to leave for New Delhi soon.
It further pledged that Congress party would go along with the people in pursuit of the popular demand for conversion of the three Bills into Acts.
