Accused in rape of disabled girl still at large

Even as the police have put all out efforts to arrest B Samananda, accused in the rape of a disabled woman of Khoyathong, the criminal remains elusive till date, ten days after the incident took place.
Expressing displeasure over the slow progress made by the police in arresting the accused, the rape victim fervently appealed the authority concerned to book him and deliver justice at the earliest.
A 26-year old disable lady was raped by B Samananda (36) s/o B Tomba Sharma of Samaram Mayai Leikai on July 26 at her residence.
"I want the rapist to be given the death sentence," the victim conveyed while interacting with The Sangai Express.
Meanwhile, OC of Imphal PS admitted to The Sangai Express that the accused could not be arrested yet despite the best efforts to arrest him.

As per the call details of the telephone held by the accused, the police made several futile attempts to arrest the accused at his residence.
Whenever the police team went to his residence, the house was found locked, the OC said.
Considering him as an offender, the police is initiating process to declare him as proclaimed offender, the police officer said while also seeking cooperation from the public for his early arrest.
Besides her physical deformity, the victim is learnt to have developed sleep disturbance, eating disorder, mental trauma etc post the rape incident.
Finding it hard to cope with the premature loss of her husband and the ill-fated incident befalling her, the victim's mother demanded stringent punishment against rapist B Samananda.
The victim's mother has been working as a 'cook' at a hotel along with the accused.
At the same time, OC of Imphal PS and Investigating Officer of the case have also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for providing information that could lead to the arrest of B Samananda Sharma.
