Imphal, January 04 2016:
Following a powerful earthquake of 6.8 magnitude which hit the entire Northeast region, the All Ma-nipur United Clubs' Organisa- tion (AMUCO) has demanded an independent enquiry into the works taken up by the con-struction company Simplex Infrastructure Limited with regard to historic Ima Keithel, parts of which were damaged.
Addressing media persons at its office, AMUCO president Dr Y Mani Khuman sta- ted that the organization assessed the nature of damage caused to the three Ima Keithels located at the heart of Imphal.
It was found that out of the three Keithels two of them suffered maximum damage all due to use of substandard construction materials.
He alleged that the quality of the materials used for construction of the two Keithels was below the minimum permissible standard.
He said "to stop unethical construction of public infrastructure with carelessness, the State Government should take up steps and order a CBI probe against the contractors of the Planning and Development Authority (PDA) and the Simplex Infrastructure Ltd." Advisor of AMUCO, KT Rahman cited that Simplex has been the forerunner in infrastructural constructions in the State.
But the incident today at the three historic Ima Keithel indicated that the authority concerned should check their credibility.
He urged the State Government to institute an expert committee to investigate the construction works which are still under construction or completed.
Showing solidarity to the bereaved victim families, he said that AMUCO will provide necessary assistance to them.
