Public curfew paralyses Khwairamband

Imphal, June 02 2016:
On account of the 14 hours public curfew imposed by the Joint Committee Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Khwairamband wore a deserted look even though the IMC election was unaffected.
All the three multi-storeyed market complexes as well as the temporary market sheds were totally deserted on account of the public curfew which came into force from 4 am.
All the shops, banks and private establishments of Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel remained shut.
On the other hand, police put up steel barricades on all the main streets and thoroughfares of both Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel.

Although free movement was allowed on BT Road and BT Flyover Bridge, any one who wished to enter Thangal Keithel or Paona Keithel was subjected to intensive questioning by police.
All the streets and thoroughfares leading to and from Thangal Keithel were barricaded with the exception of MG Avenue.
Paona Keithel, BT Road and Governor Road served as the entry and exit points.
Except for private vehicles most of which bore poll-related flags or banners, no public vehicles could be seen in the city.
Although the public curfew is limited within Khwairamband, there was no inter-district passenger service.
However, there was no report of any untoward incident.
Endorsing the popular demand for enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism in Manipur, womenfolk blocked Imphal-Ukhrul road at Yaingangpokpi and also at Gwaltabi.
