Beautification drive

The UBC-youth, in its Second year initiative of 'Ukhrul Town Beautification Campaign', has been undertaking a well planned social work starting from September 27 .
The area covered in the campaign included the most visited public places from Mini secretariat to Gandhi Avenue.
According to a statement, the campaign will culminate on Oct 2 .
Dr Shailesh Kr Chourasia, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul stopped at Gandhi Avenue to interact with the Christian youth leaders and the volunteers.

"We have had too many seminars and talking, it is time for us to act" he quipped.
He encouraged the young people and appreciated their efforts to keep the town clean and healthy, saying, "roads are the images of this town, and we will be referred to by its appearance." He further encouraged the youths to continue spreading awareness to the public.
The enthusiastic young volunteers braved the rain by cleaning drainages and picking up plastics and distributing pamphlets to the passersby, which pointed out few practical and reasonable steps one can take up like taking a handbag/reusable bag while shopping, turning off lights and equipments when not in use, maintaining dustbin and disposing it in the public waste bin, re-using wrapping papers, bows and gift boxes, managing drainage properly, etc.
Worshang Hungyo, IAS, SDO of Ukhrul also visited during the cleanup of Mini Secretariat area and extended his support and appreciation for the initiatives, the UBC-youth are taking to keep the town clean.
The Christian youth leaders maintained that poor management of wastes, both liquid and solid is a severe threat to the public health concern and cleanliness, the statement said.
