Drivers hurt as tanker convoy come under attack, again

Imphal, April 30 2017:
For the second time this month, a convoy of oil tankers was attacked by armed miscreants along Imphal-Dimapur highway inflicting injuries to two drivers.
Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the repeated attacks, oil tanker drivers have launched an indefinite cease work strike.
Unidentified miscreants fired at oil tankers which were moving in the form of a convoy between Changoubung and Kangpokpi at a place known as S-Turning at around 5.40 am today, informed a source.
Three oil tankers were hit by bullets while two drivers sustained injuries and they have been identified as Raju Karki (34) s/o late Damar of Kanglatongbi Hatikhowa and Tulsi Poudial (36) s/o Krishna of Charhajare.

They were hit by bullets on their hands.
The injured drivers were given first aid at Kangpokpi before they were taken to Imphal.
The three oil tankers which were hit by bullets changed their wheels at the Kangpokpi AR post before proceeding toward the IOC's Malom depot.
Fuel tank of one tanker truck got leaked as it was hit by a bullet, said the source.
Notably, two oil tankers were hit by bullets when another convoy was attacked by unidentified miscreants at the same place on April 18.However, there was no human casualty.
Oil tanker drivers launched cease work strike in protest against the attack before it was suspended following an agreement with the State Government.
On the other hand, police pulled up four KRA cadres who were reportedly involved in the April 18 attack.
The DGP stated before media that the KRA cadres carried out several unlawful activities in association with KNF (N) and a faction of KCP.
Following the second attack this morning, a strong police force led by an IGP went to the spot and carried out search operations in the surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, tanker drivers have launched an indefinite cease work strike.
It is said that they would take out a protest rally tomorrow.
