Imphal, March 30 2015 :
Enraged by the alleged arrogance and nonchalant attitude of the chairman of the UNACCO School's governing body, a large number of people stormed UNACCO Tower last night.
According to information culled from the spot, a large number of infuriated people stormed UNACCO Tower located at Khongman Zone-III (West) Moirang Pandit Leirak, Imphal East district under Irilbung police station and pelted stones at the school at around 8.30 pm yesterday.
Glass walls of the UNACCO Tower which is used as the administrative block of UNACCO Financial Services Pvt Ltd, UNACCO School and other UNACCO units were damaged in the attack.
The mob also damaged some CCTV cameras installed at the entrance gate of the complex.
Notably UNACCO School is located behind the UNACCO Tower.
Even though Imphal East police could somehow mollify the enraged crowd, they took out a protest rally from Khongman Mangjil to Okram Chuthek.
A large number of people continued their agitation today too by staging a protest demonstration at the bus waiting side which faces the UNACCO Tower.
The protesters prevented teachers and staff from entering the school compound and students were forced to turn back.
One woman activist who took part in the agitation said that the mass protest was evoked by the arrogance and disrespect shown by UNACCO Financial Services Pvt Ltd managing director Ningombam Irabanta.
A new building for UNACCO School is being constructed at Nandeibam Loukon of Khongman Zone III (East), Lisham Leirak on the opposite side of UNACCO Tower since around one year back.
On account of the construction work, the condition of Lisham Leirak became highly dilapidated.
The road side drain has broken down.
Local people approached Irabanta and asked him to repair the worn out road and the broken drain but Irabanta paid no heed.
Local people do not oppose construction of school building but they were only asking UNACCO to repair the worn out road.
Joint meetings were held twice with representatives of all youth clubs and Gram Panchayats of Khongman.
Even though Irabanta was invited to both the meetings, he did not turn up, said the woman activist.
Meanwhile, three students of Lisham Leirak who went for admission in UNACCO School were prohibited from seeking admission in the school.
It appears that the three students were denied admission because they belong to Lisham Leirak.
People would not accept any act which would jeopardize career of the three students, she said.
On the other hand, Irabanta convened a meeting of parents of students studying in his school yesterday.
At the meeting, he misled the parents by claiming that he had given Rs 5.30 lakh to one W Keshova of Lisham Leirak for repairing the road.
This infuriated the local people all the more, she added.
At present, UNACCO Tower and its complex are being guarded by Imphal East police.
