Four ZRA cadres held after shoot-out

A cadre of the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) suffered injury in retaliatory firing by Assam Rifles troops and his three other accomplices were apprehended late last night.
While the injured cadre identified as Lulun Nuala Paite (19) s/o Thangkanpung of Thanlon has been admitted with a bullet wound on the right calf to RIMS Hospital, the remaining three have been handed over to Lamphel police.
It is said that one of the pillion riders among the ZRA cadres on two two-wheelers - Bajaj Discover motorcycle and Honda Activa scooter - opened fire at a group of 7 AR troops near the Axis Bank ATM Booth located at Old Bazaar of Lamka town in Churachandpur district headquarters last night.
The three apprehendees have been identified as Self Styled Private D Paula Vaiphei (15) s/o D Thanga of Mata village, Amilan Paite (29) s/o M Suan of Khumujamba and Pumkan Paite s/o Bungkhan of Tuima village, all under Churachandpur district.
Meanwhile, a PIB (DW) statement said on March 29 at around 10.20 pm, four cadres on two wheelers approached a Mobile Check Post manned by Red Shield Division troops.
On being challenged by the Mobile Check Post, one of cadres fired upon the security forces.
The troops of Red Shield Division displayed restraint and returned controlled fire in which one of the cadres was injured while other three cadres apprehended.
The injured cadre was rendered first aid at Veng Battalion location and was subsequently evacuated to RIMS hospital.
Two 9 mm pistols and five live rounds were recovered from their possession at the time of arrest, said the statement adding that the others alongwith the recoveries were later handed over to Lamphel Police.
