Ukhrul, September 29 2015:
50 year old Yarchung of Rizai Khullen Village, Ukhrul who went out to search for hatched bee larvae along with his son and niece was found dead due to suffocation, assumed the villagers.
According to the villagers of Rizai, Mayarchung may have suffocated to death after he covered himself with a synthetic plastic over his head to protect from bee sting.
Possibly Mayarchung covered his head with a synthetic plastic to protect himself from the swarming bees (Khuichihui) while he was out foraging for bee larvae.
The long period of time may have asphyxiated him, they said.
However the villagers could not ascertain the exact caused of death because no official medical examination was conducted.
Villagers came to learn that he was lying in a breathless state from his niece.
It is conventional practise of the villagers to protect themselves with synthetic fibre whenever they are attacked by bees and this was what the late did.
It may be mentioned that the bee larvae is a favourite dish for tribals especially the Tangkhul community.
