Five military men hurt in PLA ambush

Imphal, November 26 2016:
At least five personnel of the 21 Para Special Forces were injured when they were attacked by suspected PLA cadres near Khongtal village under Chakpikarong sub-division of Chandel district this morning.
Troops of 21 Para Special Forces were returning to their camp after conducting a counter insurgency operation about 35 Kms away from Chakpikarong near Khongtal village when they were attacked by militants at around 7.25 am.
The PLA cadres first triggered an IED before opening a volley of fire using sophisticated weapons toward the 21 Para Special Forces personnel, informed a source.
The attack left five military personnel injured and they have been identified as Naib Subedar Balwant Singh, Naik Rakesh Thakur, Lance Naik Vikram Salunke, Lance Naik W Lowong and Pankaj Singh.
They have been brought to the Red Shield Division's Leimakhong military hospital.
W Lowong's condition is said to be critical.
Following the ambush, troops of 21 Assam Rifles rushed in and carried out a search operation but no further information could be obtained till the time of filing this report.
Another source informed that the attack was carried out by PLA's 252 Mobile Battalion as a part of Operation Barak, launched by CorCom and ULFA-I jointly.

In pursuance of the truth and common cause of liberation and to enhance the progress for the national liberation movement of WESEA, Coordination Committee (CorCom) and United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent), a constituent member of United National Liberation Front of WESEA (UNLFW), launched a joint military campaign code-named Operation Barak against the common enemy-India.
Under Operation Barak, 252 BN of PLA attacked the 21 Para Regiment of Indian Army between Aisi and Khunmulen areas of Sajik Tampak, Chandel district today.
In this operation, five or more Indian soldiers were seriously injured.
The Joint Command of the Operation, Barak, MM Ngouba Chairman, Joint Military Commission (JMC) of CorCom and Major-General Paresh Asom, Vice Chairman cum Chief of Army Staff of (ULFA-Independent) have expressed their gratitude to the 'soldiers' for their bravery in the action against Indian Army, Commander of Joint Tactical Operations Centre (JTOC) for this successful operation and fraternal organisations of WESEA and Manipur peoples for their kind helps.
