Wild meat stall at Sangai fest closed down

Imphal, November 26 2012:
The particular food stall which was offering cooked meat of wild animals at the Sangai Festival has been closed down by the Government and one individual has also been pulled up.
Briefing media persons at the festival venue today, Tourism Director Hrisheekesh Modak said that the stall was shut down last evening itself by Commerce and Industries Department which is looking after the stalls.
After Forest Department was informed, one individual was pulled up to confirm the matter.
The apprehended man is one Oinam Bojo of Sagolband.

Chief Wildlife Warden Dr Anilkumar who was also present at the press meet informed that he had instructed his subordinates to collect the particular cuisine which included meat of wild animals from PFA Thoubal.
The sample would be examined further and ample proof about presence of wild animal meat is found, necessary action would be initiated under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 .
Even if the sample did not contain meats of wild animals, the owner of M/S SK &OBS Cafe is punishable for misleading the people by openly putting up hoarding about availability of wild animal meat in the stall, Dr Anilkumar said.
