Officer-in-charge of Irilbung police station, S Gunindro Singh, who is also the investigating officer of the Manorama death case was today grilled by the advocate of the Assam Rifles over the petticoat, which showed traces of human semen.
Deposing before the Upendra Commission, the OC, while answering to queries from the AR advocate, answered that the colour of the petticoat found on the person of Manorama was recorded as red in the Inquest Report.
The OC also answered that the seizure memo and post mortem report also recorded the colour of the petticoat as red.
However the colour of the petticoat as recorded by the Centre for Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata was reddish orange colour, said the OC in reply to a barrage of questions put forth by the AR counsel.
The police officer also denied having changed the petticoat that was sent to Kolkata for the forensic testing and negated the question whether someone could have changed it.
To another question raised by the AR counsel, the OC replied that as the Investigating Officer, he is the custodian of both the post mortem reports of Th Manorama and the Malkhana (the place where seized articles are kept) where the clothings and other seized items are kept.
The OC was also asked whether the colours of the clothings found on the body of Manorama was reflected correctly in the Inquest report to which the police officer replied in the affirmative.
Gunindro further deposed that the seized clothings and other articles were kept at police Malkhana and added that the clothings were kept at the Malkhana until they were sent for forensic testing to the Forensic laboratory at Pangei on July 14 and July 26.The clothings sent for forensic testing included one bra, one underwear, one inner slacks, one outer slacks, one phanek and one petticoat, added the police officer.
The OC further said that the forensic report submitted by the CFSL Kolkata had negated the presence of semen stain on the bra, underwear, inner slacks, outer slacks and phanek.
However the forensic report said that human semen was detected on the petticoat of the woman.
The vaginal swab also tested negative for semen stain, added Gunindro.
Earlier in the day, an ugly episode ensued when the SDM who was supposed to depose before the Commission turned up in an inebriated state.
The AR counsel advocated strong action against the erring officer and said the matter should be referred to the Chief Secretary for necessary action.
