Fitting tributes paid to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot

The 70th death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was observed widely across the State today.
The Irawat Celebration Committee, Manipur observed the day as State Mourn Day at Irawat Bhavan, Chinga Ching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, said Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council.
A team led by CPI National executive member Dr M Nara offered floral tributes to the statue of the Jananeta at Irawat Bhavan and his memorial site at Chinga Ching.
On the other hand, the Irawat Celebration Committee appealed to the JAC against the killing of Athuan Abonmai to exempt the observation of the 125th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot which falls on September 30 from the purview of its proposed bandh.

The committee assured that they and the CPI will support all the initiatives taken up by the JAC.
Saying that Abonmai was cruelly murdered for his stance for a united Manipur, the statement urged the Government to arrest the killers at the earliest.
CPI (M) and its frontal organisations also offered tarpan on the death anniversary of Hijam Irabot at the bank of Imphal River at Loklaobung.
The tarpan was offered following Covid safety protocol, said CPI (M), Manipur State Committee.
Under the aegis of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM), the Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) observed the anniversary at Wahengbam Leikai in strict adherence to the standard operating procedure (SOPs) of COVID-19 .
At the observance, the gathering remained silent for two minutes as a mark of respect to the Lamyanba and also paid floral tributes, said a press release of LINTOC.
The committee said that the contemporary Manipuri society needs a leader with a calibre of the Lamyanba to save the State from different forms of oppression.
He was multi-talented and a man of different facets and quality.
Above all his talents, he was also the first revolutionary of Manipur, LINTOC said and added that the Lamyanba breathed his last on September 26, 1951 at Tangbo, Burma (now Myanmar).
"It's time we trace the footprints of the people's leader and reflect on his life and dream to build a better Manipur," LINTOC added.
The Committee for Social Movement Manipur (CSMM) and Yaipha Lamjing Meira Club (YLMC) Malom too observed the anniversary at Malom.
The main event of the function was offering flowers to the statue of Irabot, said a statement of CSSM.
Later a public meeting was convened during which the gathering urged the State Government to bring all culprits responsible for the death of Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) to book.
The State has lost a great leader in his (Abonmai) demise, CCSM said and extended solidarity to the bereaved family members.
