Imphal, August 26 2020:
Three student bodies, ATSUM, ANSAM and KSO-GHQ on Wednesday reminded Chief Minister N Biren Singh of a representation they submitted recently setting August 31 as the deadline to act on various demands they raised in 2019 .
Stating that the representation containing a charter of demands was submitted on August 18, the student bodies in a statement reminded that the Chief Minister had agreed to the demands for "implementation on priority basis" during a meeting with them on August 13, 2019 at his official residence.
Reiterating their demands, the three student bodies cautioned that they would launch an agitation if the Government doesn't act on the demands by August 31 .
What the student bodies are demanding?
1) Department of Education(S) .
i) The Government has "partially" fulfilled the charter of demand by providing some contract lecturers in the higher secondary schools in the hills, but the issue of shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff in the hill schools remains.
The Government should provide adequate staff during this current academic year to ensure quality education for children in the remote hill areas.
ii) The Department Of Education (S) has not yet solved the problem of utilization of teachers of the schools in hill districts.
It may be noted that many student organisations had earlier pointed out that utilisation of teachers in other institutions is a cause for shortage of teachers in schools.
