Kargil Vijay Diwas : Tributes paid to martyrs

Manipur joined the rest of the country in paying homage to the martyrs of Kargil war on Kargil Vijay Diwas today.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam were the chief guest and president of the State level function held at the banquet hall of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the Nation is remembering the supreme sacrifices made by the brave soldiers in the Kargil war.
He said that seven soldiers from Manipur - Lance Naik Kaleshor, Sepoy Charles Nicholas Moyon, Sepoy Beningvir Moyon, Lance Naik Birneithang, Sepoy Zamkholal Vaiphei, Sepoy Kapani Asuli and Sepoy Daikho Mao - also laid down their lives for the country in the war.
Saying that their sacrifice had made the people of the State proud, the Chief Minister said that every Manipuri must pay homage to these brave sons of the soil.
He also urged the people to unitedly take a pledge to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territory.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at the occasion said that Kargil war was fought with Pakistan to push back the intruders of the neighbouring country.
Saying that in addition to sports and art and culture, Manipur occupies a significant place in many other fields at the National level though it is a tiny State, Gaikhangam said that it was a matter of pride for all the Manipuris that seven sons of the soil also joined several other brave soldiers in laying down their lives for the country.
As such, people must adopt the ideals of these brave soldiers and fight the divisive forces that are detrimental to the territorial integrity of the State as well, he said.
BJP Manipur Pradesh also observed Kargil Vijay Diwas at its Nityaipat Chuthek office today.
State unit president Th Chaoba led party leaders and workers in offering floral tributes to the soldiers who died in the war.
The party also feted the wife of Lance Naik Kaleshor, who sacrificed his life for the country in the Kargil war, at the function.
Th Chaoba while speaking at the occasion said that Kargil war was fought to defend the country from Pakistani intrusion.
Brave soldiers of the country courageously confronted the intruders and pushed them back successfully in the war.
Among others, State unit leaders like Dr RK Ranjan, Md AR Khan, I Mangiton, Prof S Tiken, RK Shivachandra, O Malesh, L Basanta Sharma, RK Pramodini, L Bobby Devi and other leaders of BJP were present at the function.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar accompanied by COAS General Dalbir Singh, VCNS Vice Admiral P Murugesan and CAS Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha paid homage to the martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate in New Delhi today, said a press release issued by PIB (DW) .
