Imphal, August 25 2015:
Of the 14 minors who were detained at Juvenile Observation Home, Takyelpat for staging indefinite hunger strike, 13 have escaped from the home today.
Sources said that they scaled the front gate of the home and escaped towards Takyel Khongbal at around 9.30 am.
Of these 13 students, nine were pulled up from the hunger strike venue of Ananda Singh Higher Academy and four from DESAM's Keishampat agitation venue in the past few days.
Later, nine students reached Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy and resumed their indefinite hunger strike.
They have been identified as Kh Johnson, Dayananda Lairikyengbam, Oinam Suresh, Malemnganba Thounaojam, Toijam Robinson, Arambam Bopendro, Yumnam Luwangamba, Leishangkhong Fajal and Thoudam Mukhesh.
Johnson said that they escaped from the home as they thought that the Government would not keep its promise to pass a new ILPS Bill within August 25 .
He said that soon after their arrest a few days back, they were immediately sent to the Juvenile Observation Home after giving a brief treatment at RIMS hospital.
At the home, he alleged, they were treated like criminals.
Johnson further said that there is no doctor or nurse at the home.
He also said that all the 14 students detained at the home tried to escape, however, one of the inmates was caught by the security as he could not run.
Among the escaped students, Yumnam Luwangamba's health is deteriorating.
The student's mother who came to see his son at Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy gate collapsed on witnessing her son's condition.
Notably, people in different age groups have been fasting at different places for the same cause.
