Imphal, November 24 2016:
Ministry of Home Affairs, Joint Secretary (North East) Satyendra Garg has stated that the Central Government would make all possible endeavours to restore normalcy in Manipur.
Speaking to a team of media persons here today, Satyendra Garg said that they (Central Government) were also aware of the extreme misery being endured by the people of Manipur on account of the economic blockade called by the UNC against the State Government's purported intention to create Sadar Hills district.
Even though creation of districts and issues resulting thereof should be dealt by the State Government, the Central Government has been working to resolve the current issues through the State Government, Satyendra Garg said.
The Central Government has already talked with the Chief Secretary and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home).
New Delhi has also been trying to talk the issue with the Chief Minister but the meeting could not be finalised so far on account of the Chief Minister's preoccupation.
To a query, Satyendra Garg confided that they had talked with a team of the UNC who also submitted a representation.
But there is no question of holding another meeting with the UNC at the moment.
On being enquired how the Central Government will resolve the issue with Chief Minister O Ibobi already sending a report to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Joint Secretary maintained that he had no idea about what was communicated between the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister.
Nonetheless, MHA has been working to get the economic blockade lifted and restore normalcy in the State through the State Government, he added.
