Imphal, October 24 2010:
To find out the truth about the reported arrest of UNLF Chairman RK Meghen alias Sanayaima in Bangladesh, External Affairs Ministry has formally written to the Bangladesh Government.
According to an official source at New Delhi, at the request of the Union Home Ministry, Centre has entrusted the External Affairs Ministry to take up the matter with the Bangladesh Government.
Accordingly, the Ministry has written a formal letter to the Bangladesh Government on Friday last.
The Home Ministry has not received any official report on the arrest of RK Meghen from the Bangladesh Government, the source added.
It may be recalled that during his recent visit to Imphal, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai had assured that along with taking up the matter related to arrest of UNLF chairman RK Meghen, Bangladesh Government would be requested for access to interrogation of the rebel leader.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who reportedly took up the matter with the Union Home Secretary, had expressed confidence that the Centre would provide at least some information about the arrest to the State Government very soon.
Meanwhile, Universal Mother's Organisation (UMO) contended that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should be held responsible for not making public whereabouts UNLF chief, RK Sanayaima alias Meghen.
UMO in a press statement said that it has now become an open secret that the rebel leader was rounded up by a joint intelligence team of India and Bangladesh in Dhaka on September 29 last.
The organisation observed that it is gross violation of human rights and International law to detain a 'leader' for 20 days without making any confirmation of his arrest.
Saying that every arrested person must be brought before the law Court for trial, United Manipuri Muslim Women Association, in another press release said that Sanayaima must also be tried according to law of the land if Government of India considers that Sanayaima has revolted against the nation.
However, it added, concealing an arrested person for long breaches human rights.
The association also demanded making public whereabouts of Sanayaima at the earliest.
