Other issues which figured and subsequently had the Cabinet's approval included appointment of 500 care-takers (chowkidars) cum peon for schools under Autonomous District Council, consent on posting of one food safety officer in each of the nine district headquarters.
Biren also informed that the Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister decided to upgrade Sikhong Nagar Panchayat to a Municipality, elevate Manipur junior Civil Services officers to Manipur Civil Services and appoint N Babuchand as Chief Engineer in-charge of State Electricity Department from December onward.
Entrusting the charge of Deputy Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi to RK Moor for a one year period and continuation of effort of the State Government to bring the agitating UNC to the negotiating table for an amicable settlement on the latter's ongoing economic blockade were the other decisions adopted by the Cabinet, added the spokesman.
