Imphal, August 23:
Following the detection of misappropriation of fund amounting to about Rs 15 lakhs sanctioned by the Youth Affairs and Sports Department for the development of three playgrounds in three villages of Ukhrul dist, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district has initiated an inquiry into the matter.
According to an inquiry conducted by The Sangai Express on the matter, the funds were siphoned off while A Aza was the YAS Minister in the SPF Govt and Dr Suhel Akhtar was the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Dist.
Sources further said that the three playgrounds were to be constructed at Ringui, Tungou and Chingjaroi at the cost of Rs 5 lakhs each by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) with funding from the YAS Department.
It may be noted here that Ringui and Tungou are the name of a single village.
Ringui is the name recognized by the Govt while Tungou is the local name.
Informing that funds have been siphoned off separately in the name of Ringui and Tungou even though the two are the names of a single village, sources said that the involvement of high ranking Government officials and Ministers cannot be ruled out in the prevailing circumstances.
Sources also informed that funds for the construction of the three playgrounds of Ukhrul dist were released by the YAS Department and handed over to DRDA last year and added that evidences indicating the involvement of political big wigs and top ranking officers in the case are also available.
Meanwhile, Ukhrul Dist Deputy Commissioner Y Jugindro has also intimated the Govt about the matter in which 80% of the project's funds were siphoned off without completing the work.
