Parking along Paona Keithel impedes vehicular movement

Imphal, August 22 2016:
Parking vehicles along Paona Keithel road and occupation of footpath by shops have been seriously impeding movement of vehicles as well as people along the road.
Government officials, security forces as well as the officials who allot parking spaces along the road are all aware of the inconveniences encountered by the general public.
However, no remedial measures have been initiated till date.
Ahead of the by-election to Thongju AC and Thangmeiband AC, the Cabinet adopted a resolution not to allot parking spaces within Khwairamband Keithel.
It appears that the Cabinet decision has been thrown down the gutter.

Starting from RK Book House, almost half the breadth of Paona Keithel road has been turned into parking lots.
Double/triple parking of two-wheelers is quite common along the road.
Four-wheelers are also allotted parking spaces along the busy road.
Almost two-third of the width of Paona Keithel is occupied by stationary vehicles.
Movement of people and vehicles is seriously impeded when the vehicles move in reverse gear either to move out or change direction.
The problem is further aggravated by two-wheelers which come from wrong direction after violating one-way traffic system.
It is not only civilians.
Even uniformed personnel have also been violating one-way traffic system.
There were instances when the traffic was totally chocked due to heavy vehicles of security forces and VIPs parked along the road.
The footpaths are also totally occupied by merchandises sold by adjoining shops, sun-shades and hawkers thereby causing lots of inconveniences to pedestrians.
Vegetable vendors and fruit sellers are also occupying a considerable portion of the road just below the footpaths at its entry point from BT Road.
There are some bicycle shops at the junction leading to Kakhulong.
They have been displaying bicycles not only on the footpath but also on the road.
Despite all these undue disturbances and impedances, the authorities concerned seem little bothered to take up any remedial measures.
