Imphal, June 22 2011:
People settled along the Thoubal Multi-purpose Project approach road expressed strong resentment against the Government's alleged callousness on the plight of the local populace.
Noting that the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and the Minister concerned had visited the project site on numerous occasions, Nongdam Oksu Theiyong Road Transport Association president L Ito flayed the State authorities for lack of initiative to properly develop and maintain the approach road.
Pointing out that O Ibobi Singh use to inspect the Project activities for no less than 5-6 times in a year with IFC Minister N Biren's venture to the same spot even more, Ito suggested that due attention should be given on proper maintenance of the approach road as a number of heavy machines along with heavily loaded vehicles ply on the said route without hardly any interval.
With regular compression of the road surface by these heavy vehicles creating large craters the condition gets even worse during monsoons thereby posing a threat for passengers to travel on the route apart from causing severe inconveniences to the local commuters, he said.
Further highlighting that the student community and patients requiring emergency medical attention are suffering the most due to negligence of the road by the Govt, he opined that temporary filling of the craters with pebble and sand mixture is inadequate for such a measure do not last for even a month.
With no positive response from the side of the Government till date inspite of condition of the road and plight of the people settled along the Napet Palli-Theiyong Andro Road being highlighted in the media recently a public meeting was convened today at Nongrel community hall to deliberate on the future course of action.
The meeting is said to have ended with the unanimous decision to block and cease movement all the vehicles on the said route in case no prompt action is initiated by the Govt. The meeting was attended by villagers of Nongrel, Nongpok Kakching, Nongdam, Nongpok Heirok, Theiyong, Oksu, Ningthemcha Khun, Laikoiching, Soplang, Happyland, Tungkoi, New Sailen, Ngarou Ching etc.
