Cong committed to territorial integrity : Biren

Reiterating that Congress party is committed to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur, MPCC spokesman N Biren has categorically stated that the demand for a separate Kuki State is unacceptable and any attempt to fragment Manipur would not be tolerated.
He was speaking at a felicitation function of the newly elected office bearers of MPCC where the 8th Late Kangujam Mohori Singh memorial Meritorious Student Prizes were also distributed.
The programme was jointly organised by the Sugnu Block Congress Committee and the Development Committee, Sugnu.
When the UNC invited the State Government to Senapati for a dialogue, the Government made it clear that any invitation for dialogue was welcomed if the agenda were developmental issues but it would not take part in any dialogue if the agenda was alternative arrangement.
The Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill 2015 was meant for protection of all the indigenous people of Manipur but the Bill has been withheld by the President of India on account of objections raised by some sections of hill people, said N Biren.
MLA N Loken said that governing a State like Manipur where there are more than 30 communities is no cakewalk.
Nonetheless, Congress would secure absolute majority and form the next Government after the State Assembly election of 2017, he predicted.
BJP will never be able to wrest power from Congress., he added.
MPCC president TN Haokip asserted that all students are future pillars of the Nation.
He maintained that the changes effected within the Council of Ministers a few months back was aimed at strengthening the Government and the Congress party.
He then appealed to all the people to communicate with Congress party if they have any grievances against the Government.
MLA K Ranjit predicted that BJP would emerge as the second largest party in the 2017 State Assembly election and they would sit on the Opposition bench.
He also appealed to all the people to give up the idea of retaliating to economic blockades with counter economic blockades.
Ranjit asserted that majority of the hill people love Manipur and they do want any disturbances to its territorial integrity.
Altogether 300 students of Sugnu AC who cleared classes X and XII exams this year were felicitated during the function.
