Imphal, February 20 2014 :
Denying involvement of its members in the protest demonstration by some womenfolk at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of BJP Manipur Pradesh yesterday, State spokesperson A Sharda Devi explained that allotment of ticket to contest Parliamentary elections is the prerogative of the party's Central Parliamentary board and central election committee.
Speaking to newspersons at the State unit office today, Sharda Devi, who is also a national executive member of All India Mahila Morcha, BJP said party's central leaders formally intimated to the State unit office for forwarding details of individual(s) intending to contest as BJP nominee in the two parliamentary constituencies of Manipur within December 30, 2013 .
Consequent to the intimation due process to short-list candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats was initiated by the State president Th Chaoba by convening a joint meeting of mandals and 12 political district presidents at Hotel Nirmala for formation of core committee.
Under Article 27 of the BJP constitution the State Election Committee was constituted and applications filed by individuals for contesting the two Lok Sabha seats in Manipur subsequently forwarded to the party's national office in December last, maintained the spokesperson.
Stating that yesterday's protest at the party office had nothing to do with the Mahila Morcha and seems to be an act of desperation by certain individuals or groups with vested interest, Sharda observed while expressing that the protest is also an indication that BJP's popularity has been gaining momentum.
Asserting that neither the State unit president (Th Chaoba) nor other leaders have any ill-will against any particular candidate but are committed to party's belief in transparency, she conveyed that to whom the party ticket would be allotted will be decided by the central parliamentary board and centra election committee.
Even if the central committees allot tickets to individuals not forwarded by the State unit decision of the committees will be final and the State unit will have to accept the same, Sharda explained.
