Imphal, February 19 2017:
Maintaining that the system followed by Transport Department OSD BK Sharma and the Election Department for requisition of buses, trucks and light vehicles is deceitful, the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has decided not to spare any vehicle for the ensuing election.
Speaking to media persons today, TDC president H Ranjit said that large number of vehicles were requisitioned from Assam while vehicles registered in Manipur are requisitioned only when the authorities could not requisition enough vehicles from Assam.
Such requisition system of keeping the State vehicles on stand-by is unacceptable to the TDC.
On the other hand, vehicles requisitioned for transportation of Central military forces who have been assisting in maintenance of law and order have not been paid their hiring charges even though it has been three/four months since they were requisitioned, Ranjit said.
He then urged the authorities concerned to release hiring charges of all vehicles by February 23 .
Unpaid hiring charges for vehicles used in the ADC elections of Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts should be released at the earliest.
Compensation for 15 buses damaged while taking stranded people to different districts from Imphal for Christmas and New Year's Day celebrations should be paid without any further delay, Ranjit demanded.
He further asked OSD BK Sharma to come out with a clarification regarding requisition of vehicles from Assam while keeping State vehicles on stand-by.
