Imphal, January 18 2013:
Driver of a civil truck which was travelling in a convoy of Assam Rifles was severely beaten up by supporters of the bandh along NH 2 at Zakhama, Nagaland.
The convoy which left Mao at 11.30 this morning was halted by bandh supporters at Zakhama .
They pulled down the civil driver and thrashed him blue and black.
They also impounded the civil truck (NL-01C/6427) .
No one came to the rescue of the driver and the AR personnel with whom he was travelling simply looked on.
It is not clear whether the driver and the truck have been set free.
The highway has been blocked since January 16 after one person was killed and two others injured in a road accident involving a Manipur-bound truck at Zakhama on January 15 .
The bandh was relaxed a bit since yesterday as only heavy vehicles are now prohibited movement along the highway.
