Imphal, December 16 2019:
Denouncing the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Parliament and police action against students who protested against the amended Citizenship Act in Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University yesterday, volunteers of North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) launched a protest, courting mass arrest in front of CM Bungalow this evening.
The NEFIS volunteers, comprising of six members tied up their mouths with ribbon and surrendered before the State Government in front of the CM Bungalow at around 5.15 pm.
They claimed that they have no rights to speak or oppose the Government's act of implementing CAA in the country in the face of the brutal police action against the students' protesters at Jamia Millia Islamia yesterday.
The protesters also courted arrest asserting that being arrested is better than to live without the right to express or protest the whims of the Government.
Police personnel who were deployed around the CM Bungalow acted swiftly to halt the protest.
They later picked up the protesters after dispersing/driving them back to near TG Higher Secondary School.
Meanwhile, some police personnel objected to journalists covering the protest without giving appropriate reason.
However, the journalists continued to cover the protest claiming they were performing their duties.
