Asking all to pay fitting tributes to K Memita on her Mangani Leihul tomorrow, leaders of AMSU, DESAM and MSF today said that floral tributes will be paid to the memory of the departed soul at 20 different places tomorrow.
K Memita passed away on August 13 after she was injured during a protest against the imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act at Lamlai.
Speaking to newsmen somewhere at Imphal West today, leaders of the three student organizations said that floral tributes will be paid to the memory of the departed soul at Konung Mamang, Khurai Lamlong, Khoyathong, Kongba, Kwakeithel bazar, Tera bazar, Irilbuns bazar, Nambol bazar, Bishnupur bazar, Thoubal bazar, Singjamei bazar, Canchipur bazar, Porompat, Checkon, Khwairamband bazar, Chingmeiroug, Mantripukhru Khabam Lamkhai and Mayang Imphal.
Addressing the newsmen, DESAM president L Romesh said that students will surrender their text books to the Government as part of the protest and to highlight the point that the students have been deprived of their right to education in the prevailing situation.
He also reiterated that the present movement is not at the behest of anyone, but a genuine people's uprising against all black laws.
Strongly reacting against the Chief Minister's statement that the Govt will lift the AFSPA from the State, if the Apunba Lup can assure that the militants will not indulge in extortion and violence, the student leader said that the very statement is unbecoming of a leader of the State.
On the other hand it is the Ministers and the bureaucrats who have been siphoning off public funds, he charged.
Rejecting the partial lifting of the Act, the student leader further said that it is nothing but another manifestation of divide and rule policy pursued by the Govt. The student leader also demanded a clarification from Seram Mangi, who during the AIR morning news analysis broadcast, said that the Govt has done the right thing in banning the news channel of ISTV.
AMSU president Ksh Umesh questioned what has happened to the ultimatum served by some MLAs and Ministers that they would resign from their posts if the AFSPA is not lifted within August 15.Their turn around in the face of the partial lifting of the DAA has exposed their true self, he maintained.
Umesh further said that the stand of Assam CM Tarun Gogoi that the AFSPA should stay is highly condemnable and should not be taken lightly by the people of Assam.
