Imphal, October 15 2015 :
The 18-hour general strike clamped by CorCom against the alleged annexation of Manipur into the Indian union crippled normal life in the State today.
All the shops and major business establishments in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal remained closed during the stir although there was no report of any untoward incident.
All major roads and market areas wore a deserted look as all the passenger vehicles, both inter-State and inter-district, and private vehicles also remained off the roads during the stir that passed off peacefully at 6 pm.

However, security forces, Government and some private vehicles were seen plying on the roads.
Schools, colleges, petrol pumps and cinema halls also remained shut during the general strike.
Although Government offices remained open, staff attendance was low.
Police and security forces personnel were seen deployed at important places and junctions to thwart untoward incidents.
It may be mentioned that the general strike was clamped by CorCom, a co-ordination body of several armed underground outfits, in denunciation of the alleged annexation of Manipur in Indian Union on October 15, 1949 .
