Jiri district demand : Fast stir begins

As announced earlier, Kh Rajkumar of Vidyanagar, Jiribam has begun his fast unto death stir from today in pursuit of the demand for upgrading Jiribam sub-division to a revenue district.
Supporting the stand of Rajkumar, around 100 Meira Paibis have also launched a relay hunger strike from today.
On the other hand, arrangements have been put in place to escort the goods laden vehicles, including tankers, from Jiribam to Imphal in view of the proposed economic blockade by the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) along Imphal-Jiri Road with effect from 7 pm tomorrow.
To exert pressure on the Government, Rajkumar began his fast unto death stir starting from 10 am today in front of the MSF Jiribam branch office as part of the movement being spearheaded by JDDC over the demand for upgrading Jiribam sub-division to the status of a revenue district.
Rajkumar has sworn to continue with his fasting until the Government declares district status for Jiribam sub-division.
In support of Rajkumar and his fast, around 100 representatives from various Meira Paibi groups of Jiribam have also begun a relay hunger strike from today.

It is said that another 100 women would carry forward the relay hunger strike tomorrow.
A meeting of Jiribam District Demand Committee today has also discussed the situation of the ongoing agitation and other possible eventualities, convenor of Jiribam District Demand Committee M Maipaksana has conveyed.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been reportedly made for escorting back all the goods laden trucks currently stationing at Jiribam to Imphal under tight security ahead of the proposed economic blockade of the District Demand Committee with effect from 7 pm tomorrow.
According to information received by the press, there are around 800 Imphal bound goods laden trucks presently stationing at Jiribam.
All these goods laden trucks would start leaving Jiribam for Imphal by early morning tomorrow under tight security.
In addition to stringent security measures taken up, ROP duty has been intensified along Imphal-Jiribam road to ensure safety of the trucks.
The goods laden trucks would hold the night tomorrow at Awang Khul and try to reach Imphal the following day.
