Hailstones wreak havoc

Hailstorm wreaked havoc in Phubala and Sunusiphai area under Bishnupur district on Thursday at around 6.30 pm.
Huge hailstones damaged crops and buildings in the areas.
Sunusiphai Farmer's club president L Shyamkumar said summer crops of 15 farmers at Sunusiphai Maning Leikai (approximately 40 paris) have been destroyed in the hailstorm yesterday.
He expressed disappointment that the club will not be able to organise the annual Water Melon festival of the area as majority of the melon crop were destroyed by hailstones yesterday.
He has appealed the authorities concerned to monitor the damages incurred in the storm.
About 70 houses were reportedly damaged as hail- stones perforated tin roofs.
Houses of Warepam Ingocha, Warepam Sanatombi Devi, Oinam Yaima Singh, Oinam Ibohal Singh, Oinam Sanjoy Singh and Salam Babuyaima Singh of Sunusiphai Mayai Leikai and Phubala Maka Leikai received major damages.
