Imphal, May 14 2017:
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) which is a partner of the BJP-led coalition Government has pledged that it would support the candidate fielded by BJP for the by-election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat of Manipur which is scheduled on May 25 .
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office this afternoon, LJP spokesman Ningombam Ibohal Meitei said that LJP believes in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's far sighted, development based governance.
LJP would support the BJP with a belief that the State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren would take the State to a higher trajectory of development in line with the Prime Minister's vision and ideas, Ibohal said.
Together with CAF&PD and Revenue Minister Karam Shyam who is also National general secretary of LJP and LJP State unit president Thangkhangin Ngaihte, a meeting of the party's State executive committee was held.
The meeting agreed to support the BJP candidate.
Not long after the new Government was formed, the record-breaking economic blockade was lifted and the protracted Churachandpur issue was resolved amicably.
Moreover, the apparent hill-valley division has been bridged and LJP acknowledged all these developments, Ibohal said.
Notably, LJP is also a partner of the Centre's NDA Government.
The lone Rajya Sabha seat of Manipur has been lying vacant since the demise of sitting MP Abdul Salam.
