Demanding safe release of S Akhup Kom, the Khullakpa of Tongbihangpu Kharam Kom village under Lamlai A/C, whose whereabouts has not been known after he had been picked up by unidentified armed persons from Andro Mamang Leikai on January 11, a public rally was taken out at Andro today.
In all 1000 people, both men and women participated in the rally.
A public meeting held after the rally has also decided to launch various intense agitations in association with other State level organisations in case S Akhup Kom is not set free at the earliest.

Jointly organised by Kharam Development Organisation, Thayong Kom Village Authority, Thayong Kom Mothers' Assn, Thayong Youth Club, Nungkot Youth Club, Nungkot Village Authority, Nungkot Mothers' Assn, All Andro Meira paibi Association, All Andro Youth Club, Tongbihangpu Village Authority, Tongbihangpu Mothers' Association and Tongbihangpu Youth Club, the rally was flagged off from Thayong Kom Village at around 10 am.
The rallyists carried placards and festoons with slogans like 'We condemn abduction of innocent person', 'We want peace', 'Release S Akhup Kom safe and sound immediately', 'We oppose levelling false charges', etc during the procession which concluded at the public ground of Tongbihangpu Village where the public meeting was convened.
Appealing to all concerned for safe and immediate release of S Akhup Kom, the meeting demanded an explanation from all concerned in connection with the abduction.
The meeting further decided to launch various intense agitations along with the support of other State level organisations in case S Akhup Kom is not set free at the earliest possible.
According to Jankil, wife of the abducted person, on January 11 her husband had gone from home driving a red coloured Yamaha RX bearing registration no.MN04/7704 to Huikap in connection with getting the patta of his land.
However, he was waylaid and abducted by the unidentified armed persons.
No one has claimed or given any information about the abduction of her husband.
Even if her husband had committed any mistake, he should be forgiven on humanitarian ground and given a chance to rectify himself, she said, while appealing for his safe release immediately.
Meanwhile, Nongmaiching Area Komrem Chief Association and Nongmaiching Area Komrem Mothers' Association have also been for the safe release of the abducted Khullakpa.
