Imphal, November 13 2020:
Sena Youth Trust (SYT), Kakching, expressed disappointment with the steps being taken up by the Government in tackling the pandemic in the State citing lapses and discrepancies in the system.
A statement released by SYT said Sena Athletic Organization (SAO) has been working on preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Kakching Wairi Senapati Leikai.
However, on November 8, a local by the name of Naorem Ibomcha (65), S/o late Naorem Lalhari was taken to Jeevan Hospital for medical check up.
Unfortunately he turned out to be COVID-19 positive and died on the same day.
However, the report of his death has not been reported in the update released by the Covid control room till date, which in itself is a testament that despite the Government's continuous effort, there are still loopholes in the efforts being taken up.
This has further raised fear and apprehension amongst the public forcing them to question if such incident has been happening elsewhere too.
Following the death of the patient, it was found that 2 family members of the deceased were also COVID-19 positive on the same day, and on the following day 5 more positive cases and 1 more on the next was found in the subsequent follow-up testing in Kakching Wairi Senapati Leikai.
Despite the number of positive cases rising in the locality, the district administration of Kakching failed to take up necessary action and declared the locality a containment zone.
It was only declared a containment zone in the late hours of November 11, four days after the first detection of COVID-19 in the locality.
Furthermore, SYT publicity secretary, Moirangthem Kapil Singh, said that the first case of COVID-19 in the locality was detected on August 19, and in that case too, the district administration of Kakching failed to take up necessary steps including declaration of containment zone.
This, he said, raised a serious question whether the district administration of Kakching is being biased and also if they had goofed up in tackling the situation.
Further he raised doubt if some people's actions were making futile the efforts of the Government of Manipur in tackling the pandemic.
SYT further drew the attention of the Government to include the name of the deceased in the list of lives claimed by COVID-19, no delay in announcement of containment zone and to take up necessary steps in the containment zone in Kakching Wairi Senapati Leikai.
