New Delhi, August 13:
Describing the situation in Manipur as "serious", BJP today accused the UPA Government of lacking "clarity" and said the issue will figure in Parliament during post-recess Budget Session when answers will be sought from the Government.
BJP president Venkaiah Naidu asked the Government to initiate dialogue with those protesting in the State, to cool the passions.
"The situation in Manipur is serious.
The Government should think on it with seriousness," Naidu told reporters here.
Alleging "there is no clarity in the Central Government on the issue" and it lacks "consistency", he said though the State also had Congress rule, "we are not sure whether they (Centre and State Government) are talking to each other".
The BJP chief said there will be a discussion on Manipur in Parliament when the House meets again on August 16."The Govt should tell Parliament what steps it is taking on Manipur.
Parliament should be taken into confidence," he said.
Naidu's comments came a day after senior party leader Sushma Swaraj recommended review of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and disfavored withdrawal of Assam Rifles whose personnel have been accused of committing atrocities in the State.
Our Staff Reporter adds: Even though the Central Govt is not very pleased with the partial lifting of the DAA from Manipur, Congress led UPA Govt at the Centre has not taken any process to re-impose the Disturbed Area Act in the Municipal areas of Imphal, disclosed a reliable source from New Delhi.
The source said that the Central leaders besides thoroughly discussing the State situation are closely monitoring the situation in Manipur following the partial lifting of disturb area status from the State.
Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister will be closely studying the State Cabinet's resolutions once the relevant documents are submitted to the Central Govt, added the source.
