126th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar: Strong need to bridge hill-valley divide : N Kayisii

The 126th Birth Anniversary of Baba Saheb Ambedkar was observed today at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
The observance was organized by the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Manipur University.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Minister of Tribal Development & Hills and Fisheries, N Kayisii said, "Dr Ambedkar was a victim of caste discrimination, inequality and prejudice.
He continuously fought for eradication of social discriminations that had divided the Indian society and made it crippled.
He was a brave crusader of social equality and justice."

Kayisii further stated that the hill-valley division in the State should be addressed in the true spirit of Dr Ambedkar.
He pointed out that unless there is equal distribution, respect and concern for one another, there will not be true development and peaceful coexistence in the society today.
The Minister assured that his departments together with the Government will try their best to bring about a just and positive change in the State.
He strongly appealed the masses not to promote any form of prejudice and communal feelings at any cause.
Expressing his gratitude and appreciation to the organizers, the Minister stated that a reputed educational institute like Manipur University should be a platform of such reforms to bring about positive changes in the society.
The Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Manipur University is one such exemplary initiative which everyone should appreciate and promote.
He also expressed his hope that the observance of 126th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar will bring about some positive changes in the society.
A book titled "Issues in Gender Discrimination" was also released during the observation.
Talking about the book, Kayisii stated that the book should be an effective tool to understand such issues and concerns to bring about social and gender equality in the society.
He appreciated the authors and contributors for their hard work in bringing out such a useful book.
As a part of the observance, three resource persons spoke on certain themes related to the life and works of Dr Ambedkar.
Prof Ksh Bimola Devi talked on the theme "Ambedkar as Social and Political Leader", Prof E Bijoykumar Singh on "Economic Thoughts of Ambedkar" while Dr Yaiphaba Ningthoujam spoke on "Regional Disparities in Development" .
Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, Prof L Tombi Singh, former Director, CSSEIP, MU and Prof N Lokendra Singh, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Manipur University also attended the function as president and guests of honour respectively.
